Rev. Elvie Garland Smith
November 11, 1917 - February 26, 2008

Rev. Elvie Garland Smith was born on Sunday, November 11, 1917, son of the late George Lee and Eliza Jane Thompson Smith. Rev. Smith died Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at the family residence in Fort Smith, Ark., at the age of 90 years 3 months and 15 days. He was born in Alton, Mo., and had lived in Fort Smith for the past 9 years and was formerly of Trumann where he lived most of his lifetime. He was a Singer employee for 16 years, retired minister with the United Pentecostal Church. He loved gardening and woodworking, a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during War World II and was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Trumann. Rev. Smith was preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha Smith; granddaughters, Marcia Moody Sims and Kendra Smith Desporte, and his parents. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Ruth Helen McGough Smith of the home; two daughters, Melva Moody of Ft. Smith and Regina Brewer of Trumann; three sons, Wayne Smith of Trumann, Charles
