It has been one year since Billy Ray Medley passed away.I often think of the days when we were children and often lived near each other. Our fathers worked for their father as tenant farmers.Grandpa would lease the land and his sons (Bill,Revo,Perry, and Jim) would farm it.Billy Ray and I were born at Burdette (near Blytheville). He was six months older than me.The family moved near Oceola,AR about 1932.I recall Daddy catching a truck taking a crew to Dyess Colony to clear land.In 1936 the land owner raised the rent.Grandpa didn't like that so he found a farm to rent near Salina,OK,near Sallisaw.

I use to live at Tulot several years ago when I was married to Carles Smullin. Billy & Barb were dear people & would do anything they could for their friends & neighbors. They treated you with respect & love.I could go on & on about those two. They lived by the Golden Rule, not just sometimes but every day. They will be sorely missed but I know they are in Heaven looking over us.

Pam & Tammy: I am so sorry to hear about your Dad and was unable to attend the visitation. It is so hard loosing parents and it is really hard when you loose the last one. It does get better with time and prayer. You, like me, were blessed with exceptional parents! Keep the memories close and think of them often. I will keep you in my prayers as you go into the holiday season...be thankful for the time you had them and for the things they "taught" us and left us with.

  12. Carl Ray Redden, Conway, Arkansas says

When I first heard of Billy Ray's passing, I instantly recalled the great times we had when we shared adjacent farms. Those farms do not exist now as they did then, but the memories do. I remember when we were kids walking the dirt roads and sandy fields barefoot. I remember our first date -- we double dated. We were about 16 and I did not want to go without him nor he without me. We were both shy and afraid of what conversation we would have with our girlfriends. Just in case we could not think of anything to say to the girls, we could talk to each other. What wonderful times we had growing up.I know his passing is a sad time for the family and the empty chair at the table will require a lot of adjusting to. But a great consolation is that you got to share a great portion of his life with him. But an even greater consolation is you will see him again when the Lord calls us home to be with Him for eternity. My prayers are with you during this difficult time of adjustment without Billy Ray.Carl Ray Redden

I am sorry about your dad. But you must remember, you girls had 2 of the best parents in the world. I remember staying with you a lot when I was in high school because my dad was sick and how calm and nice your home was.I also remember when my dad got out of the hospital and was so sick he could not farm that year. All of the men in the community came roaring into our yard on their tractors and made crop for mom and dad that year. And guesswho was leading the pack. Your dad.I will always remember your mom and dad fondly for all the wonderful things they did and for always being there to help.
