Etta Christine Gartman
June 6, 1930 - May 19, 2019

Mrs. Etta Christine Gartman, 88, of Trumann departed this life Sunday, May 19, 2019, on a day of the week that meant so much to her, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. She left her bed of confinement and her tired, frail body to take her first step on the streets of gold, surely, wearing her high heels. While her new journey has just begun, she will be remembered best for all of the good she did here. She was a woman of many talents and even more titles. She was Mom, she was Granny, she was Tootie, but to most everyone that knew her she was NAN. Of all her accomplishments, Nan was most proud to be a homemaker, a career that she took very seriously. To her, supper had to fill the table, couches had to be flipped, creases would not wash out of jeans, and sheets had to be pinned to mattresses. No work should wait until later, and all of her work she did with love. In life, the greatest gift we can ever give, is the one we never realized we gave, love. She loved her home, her church, her family and her dog, Coco. One love superseded all of these others and that was her love of the Lord. She was born in Jonesboro and was a lifetime residence of Trumann. She was a housewife and a member of The Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elden “Peavine” Gartman, a grandson, Slade Gartman; one sister, Linnie Robertson; three brothers, Jack, Howard and James Calvin “J.C.” Parnell and was the daughter of the late Alonzo and Rethia Harrell Parnell. She is survived by one daughter, Deborah (Johnny Jr.) Walters of Trumann; one son, Danny (Edna) Gartman of Trumann; four grandchildren, Kim King, Darek Gartman, Tabithia Mullins, and Amy Craig; five great grandchildren, Hannah, Lauren and Jaelyn Craig, Bates King and Houston Gartman; and other extended family, Scott Richards, Memphis Thompson, Paydon, Anna Claire, Brayden, Carly and many others. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, May 21st at 10 a.m., at the First Baptist Church in Trumann with Bro. Gary Barker officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be Monday, May 20th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 1301 Highway 69 West in Trumann. Special thanks to Nan’s PT Muscles, nurses, techs, doctors, RT’s, radiology and janitorial staff of the Second and Third floor of St. Bernard’s. An online register book can be signed at www.thompsonfuneralhome.net.

We are so sorry for your loss. When this happens in our family we need more than human strength. God and his Son can provide what we need. Please review these scriptures : John 5:28-29 “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.” Revelation 21:4 “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

To Danny, Debbie and families, The hearing of Mrs. Christine's passing was kind of bitter-sweet. I have known and loved her since 1966. She was a beautiful person-inside and out. Such a godly person, as I remember meeting her when I was only10. We know she's in a much better place with our Lord and other loved ones. May His peace be with you all, as only He can give.

Sis. Christine was truly a blessing to me. She always had a smile on her face and always spoke whenever she saw me out. I remember growing up in church with her, and yes she always had her high heels on and she could shout with the best of them and never even stumble with those heels on. I know she is rejoicing in Heaven with all of those that have gone on before her and she wouldn't come back her if she could. I know she will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and church family but we can rejoice in the fact that we will see her again as long as we stay faithful to the Lord.
