Jules A Martin
August 3, 1917 - July 12, 2019

Jules A. Martin passed away from natural causes this past Friday.  He was 101 years old.  Jules’ personal philosophy was “to live his life in accordance to God’s laws and to treat others with the utmost importance,” and everything he did, especially through his love of music, reflected it.  He became a church pianist in 1932 at the age of 15 and then the principal organist at Trumann First Baptist Church in 1948, when they bought their first organ.  In addition to weekly Church services, he played for weddings, funerals, school ceremonies, and special events in his community.  He would continue to do so for the rest of his life.      In September 1941, Jules began his service in the US Army and served the majority of the war in the Pacific Theater.  After WWII ended, he was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant Major and awarded the American Defense Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, among others.      Jules is survived by his wife, Dorothy, with whom he shared a happy marriage of 65 years.  Together they have two sons and five grandchildren.      Jules fulfilled his dearest wish of “standing before God at the end of his life, not having a single bit of talent left because he used everything God had given him.”      Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 1301 Highway 69 W in Trumann.   A Celebration of life will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. John Maley officiating.  Graveside service will be Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery in Jonesboro, AR.       Pallbearers will be Aleksis Martin, Don Martin, Eric Martin, Jon Martin, Matthew Basinger and Tim Martin.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist Church.      Lasting Memorials can be made to the Music Department of First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 575 Trumann, AR  72472. An online register book can be signed at www.thompsonfuneralhome.net
