Virginia Irene Evans
January 22, 1926 - August 8, 2020

Mrs. Virginia I."Jenny" Evans of Trumann departed this life on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Quail Run Nursing Home in Trumann at the age of 94 years, 6 months and 17 days.  She was born Friday, January 22, 1926 in and a lifetime resident of Trumann.  She was the cafeteria manager for the Trumann School District.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Elbert “Charlie” Evans; one brother, Harold “ Tobe” Slinkard; three sisters, LaWanda “Bootsie” Pankey, Harriet Ann Slinkard, and Willa Dean Slinkard; two great-grandchildren, Faith and Lucas Bruner, and her parents, Hiram S and Esther Irene Metcalf Slinkard.       She is survived by two sons, Danny (Patricia) Evans of Trumann, AR, Teddy (Debbie) Evans of Batesville, AR; two brothers, Bob Slinkard of Trumann, and Howard Slinkard of Rogers, AR; three sisters, Jerrie Sue Qualls of Rockford, IL, Judy Dunman of Lake City, AR and Nancy England of Trumann, AR; seven grandchildren, DeAnna Ballard, Amanda Walters, Andrea Bruner, Sara Bobbitt, Wesley Evans, Dustin St. John and Misty Sturges; 11 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.       Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann.        A Celebration of Life will be Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home with Joe Spangler officiating.  Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery in Jonesboro, AR.  In compliance with COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing will be required along with face masks.         Pallbearers will be Dustin St. John, Wesley Evans, Lee Ballard, Chris Walters, Adrian Walters, Tejaye Moye, Gary Bruner, and Avery Bobbitt.  Honorary pallbearers are the Nursing Staff of Quail Run Nursing Home.       Lasting memorials can be made to the Children’s Home, 5515 Old Walcott Road, Paragould, AR  72450 and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN  38105.         Online guest book can be signed at www.thompsonfuneralhome.net

    We are very sadden for the loss of your loved one! She was always like family to all of us. Even though we haven't seen MS, Jenny in years we remember her kindness and her love for those around her.     When I first heard this news my old mind didn't connect all the dots. Then I read the obituary and realized this is Ms. Virginia from church and from school - Teddy's mom and Bob's mom as well as Judy, Howard and Nancy's sister and sister to older Slinkards whom I didn't know. Oh my, she was a jewel of a lady - so kind and sweet to everyone. How sad her passing is for the family, but how wonderful that she is going to her heavenly reward! May God bless all who loved her and will miss her.
