Darrel Gilbert "Gib" Wiley
November 26, 1945 - June 25, 2022

Darrel Gilbert “Gib” Wiley of Trumann, AR, departed this life on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at  the age of 76 years 6 months and 30 days at the family residence in Trumann. Mr. Wiley was born in Athens, Alabama to the late Dallas Polk and Clara Baker Wiley and lived most of his lifetime in Trumann.  He  was a retired carpenter for Roach Manufacturing in Trumann; veteran of the Arkansas National Guard; member of the St. Francis Lake Association and Elm Grove Baptist Church.   He was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Odell Bishop, Hazel Deloach and Betty Wiley; three brothers, Dudley “Buddy” Wiley, Bill Wiley and Dallas Wiley and his parents.      Mr. Wiley is survived by his wife of 53 year, Bernice Qualls Wiley of the home, one daughter, Lisa Wiley Hall and husband Shawn of Trumann; two grandchildren, Jenna Claire Hall and Lucy Grace Hall;  one sister, Doris Payne of  West Memphis, Ark.; and two brothers, Kenneth Wiley of Jonesboro and Michael Wiley of Trumann.      A graveside celebration of life will be Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery in Jonesboro with Rev. Gary Williams officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of  Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann.       Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Bishop, Jim Bishop, Alan Milligan, Kenny Brewer, Anthony Brewer and Curtis Dewayne Green.       In compliance with COVID-19 restrictions, face masks or other facial covering and social distancing is optional.     No one knew the twists and turns of St. Francis River like Gilbert. He was first-class duck hunter and fisherman and rarely did you see him when he didn't have a mess of crappie in his cooler. He was a true riverman of the likes we may never see again. Rest well and God bless.

    My condolences go out to the family. Most of you don’t know me but we were fishing buddies from the river. He was one of the best fisherman I have had the pleasure of knowing. It is with a heavy heart I write this, as he was a great friend to have. When we first met at my daughters wedding , she married Josh Callahan, we became instant friends. We haven’t seen each other in almost 8 years but we talked regularly about our passion, the river. Please know he will never be forgotten and sorely missed.

    Gilbert was a fine man. I never heard him say a bad word about anyone. He loved being outdoors, hunting and fishing and was very good at both. NOBODY knows the St. Francis River like Gilbert Wiley. I’ll miss him.
