Lary M Whitton
May 27, 1943 - April 13, 2025

Lary Mitchel Whitton, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and faithful servant of Christ, passed away on April 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 81. He was born on May 27, 1943, in Paragould, Arkansas, to Clyde and Anna Lou Whitton. Lary was the last remaining sibling  of ten children. Lary spent his upbringing in the Paragould area. He enlisted in the military in June 1961 and served for three years in the US Army. He worked for eighteen years at Combustion Engineering in St. Louis, and later became a successful contractor and business owner of LW Fabricators. He submitted his life to Christ in 1980.  He married his wife Sherry (Crone) on July 3, 1981.  They enjoyed 44 years of life together.  He was a devout and active member of Maple Grove Baptist Church for over twenty-three years. He was a member of The Gideons International for thirty-one years where he served in multiple roles. Lary is remembered as being a God-fearing husband and father who loved his family dearly. He was an incredibly hard worker and a handy man around the house. Lary was a man of character who exhibited both gentleness and peace, without compromising strength in his convictions. He was known for his generosity, integrity and honesty.  His family looked up to him as a wonderful example of a good samaritan. Lary was known for his deep love of God, family, laughter, and, of course, coffee, something he was never without. He loved to travel and was especially fond of the west. Lary is preceded in death by his cherished son, Mike, his father, Clyde Whitton; his mother, Anna Lou Wood Whitton; his four sisters, Geraldine, Mary, Dora Lee, and Thelma; and his five brothers, James, Alvin, Robert, David, and Ted. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Sherry Whitton, and his five children Cathy (Kevin) Thomason, Melanie (David) Cagle, Jessica (Jonathan) Skaggs, Sarah (Aaron) Householder, and Drew (Kaley) Whitton. Lary’s memory will forever be cherished by his six grandchildren; Denver (Rachel), MaryKlaire, John, Jolie, Tobin, and Judah; and nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Aaron Householder, John Skaggs, Larry Henderson, Ed Rowlett, Alan McClung, Larry Fowler, Eldon Housdan, and Bobby Hightower.  Honorary pallbearers will be Maple Grove Sr. Men’s Sunday School Class. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 til 6 at Maple Grove Baptist Church, 13509 Maple Grove  Lane.A Celebration of Life will follow at 6:00 with Rev. Jim Duffel and Drew Whitton officiating.  Committal will be Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in Pine Log Cemetery in Brookland with Jonathan Skaggs officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to the Gideon International or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Pl, Memphis, TN  38105-9959 An online register book can be signed at www.thompsonfuneralhome.net
