When I was driving to the visitation last night, wishing that I were going to see Joey to sit and talk with him, I was remembering the times in school when he made me laugh so hard, and of the beautiful drawings he used to do. I wanted so much to know what he had been up to since I had seen him last -- in the '70s. The wonderful slide show filled in a lot of the blanks, seeing Joey in all the phases of his life -- kissing his sweet Brenda, holding his beautiful babies, playing music. And meeting Ty and Whitney, it was easy to see that Joey had been living his life as a good example for them -- they're so full of love for him! Sharing the story with them of Joey's funny drawing in our class made them laugh, but it made me feel really good to know that if I couldn't talk to Joey anymore, I could do the next best thing -- talk with them about him.I know you all miss Joey terribly, but I can see that you will find comfort in just remembering him together. Whitney will see him every time she looks at her sweet baby's chin -- Joey's chin -- what a gift! And Brenda's faith in God, her natural grace and obvious strength of character will see her through the hardest of times.I'm so glad to meet you all and wish you well.
