Robert Prescott "Bob" Hervey Sr., 87, passed away on July 28, 2026, after a brief illness. Born on November 3, 1938, in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Bob was the son of lawyer A.C. Hervey Sr. and Emma Jane Hervey of Trumann, Arkansas. Bob graduated from Trumann High School in 1956 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Arkansas State College in Jonesboro in May 1960. He served in the Army National Guard as PVT E-2, where he worked as a cook before receiving his honorable discharge in 1967.  While living in Trumann, Bob worked for Baldwin Oil Company and Northern Propane Gas Company where he was office manager. He proudly served on the street committee as a member of the Trumann City Council, where he was an alderman for ten years. While on the city council, Bob went above and beyond by personally making and installing Balcom Lane's first street sign. Though the road was outside the city limits, he took it upon himself to solve a long-standing need. His homemade sign lasted more than 40 years. After moving to Harrisburg in 1973, Bob was a self-employed farmer before working at Farmers Supply until his retirement. Though hired as an inventory clerk, Bob became the employee everyone sought out. Known for solving problems and going beyond his job, from sharpening chainsaws to relighting pilot lights, his reputation for solving problems brought so many people asking for him that tall partitions were built around his workspace to keep him out of view so he could focus on his job. Throughout his life, Bob was known as a hardworking man who helped so many customers, friends, neighbors, and family members that he became a true jack-of-all-trades. Bob was a carpenter, electrician, plumber, and mechanic whenever the need arose. Bob's work ethic was remarkable, but it is his kindness and sense of humor that people remember most. He had a quick wit, a huge grin, and a way of making even ordinary days more enjoyable. He loved visiting with people, telling stories, and never seemed to meet a stranger. He was never in a hurry if someone needed help or just needed someone to talk to. If there was a conversation to be had, a problem to fix, or someone who needed a hand, Bob was probably going to be late getting home, and he wouldn't have had it any other way. More important than any occupation, however, the arrival of his first granddaughter gave him the title he treasured most: “Bobba.” His greatest joy was loving his children, grandchildren, family, and friends. By both word and example, Bobba taught his children and grandkids the importance of compassion, generosity, and always being willing to help someone in need. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, A.C. Hervey Sr. (born 1886) and Emma Jane Kiefer Hervey (born 1901) of Trumann, Arkansas, and his brother, A.C. Hervey Jr. of Belton, Texas. His father was a World War I veteran and lawyer who served as mayor of Trumann. His mother was an elementary school teacher. His parents would have been proud of the life he built, honoring their example through service to others and a love for children. He is survived by his children, Beth Hervey, Audra Hervey, Robert Hervey Jr. (Misty), and Anthony Davis; their mother, Jan Mitchusson; his grandchildren, Hayley Hervey Ashcraft (Matthew), Ethan Hervey, Jayson Stewmon, Logan Hervey, and Lorilei Hervey; his sister-in-law, Pat Hervey; his valued friend Ed Williams; along with many extended family members and friends. Having chosen cremation as his final disposition, the honorary pallbearers are all the men and women of Farmers Supply, whose friendships meant so much to Bob throughout his years there. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Harrisburg First Assembly Church at 813 N Illinois Ave in Harrisburg, AR. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at2:00 p.m. Officiating the service will be Brother Rick Jensen. Floral or botanical tributes and sympathy arrangements may be delivered to First Assembly on Friday, August 7, between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Bob will be remembered for his generous heart, his willingness to lend a hand, his quiet humility, and the deep love he had for his family. His life was one of selfless service to others, and his memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
